Engineering Disclaimer
Read this before relying on any result.
MechanixCalc is an engineering aid, not a certified design. Every number it produces must be independently verified by a competent, licensed Professional Engineer before it is used for manufacture, construction, procurement, certification, or any decision affecting safety, property, or life.
1. What MechanixCalc is — and is not
MechanixCalc is a web-based engineering calculation platform intended for use by qualified engineers as a decision-support and preliminary-design aid. Its outputs are calculations, charts, and indicative verdicts (PASS / REVIEW / FAIL).
It is not:
- a certified, stamped, or signed engineering design;
- professional engineering advice, or a substitute for engineering judgement;
- a guarantee that any result is correct or fit for your specific application;
- a replacement for the codes, standards, manufacturer data, and testing your project requires.
2. Two classes of result
Not every panel in the app carries the same level of assurance. We mark the difference openly so you are never misled.
Standard-validated calculations
These implement a cited governing standard (e.g. ISO, ASME, EN, DIN, VDI, AGMA) or a recognised textbook method, and each is checked against that standard by an automated test suite that runs on every release. The report shows the formula, the substituted values, and the reference so a reviewer can follow the work. This is a strong basis for engineering work — but see §3 for exactly what “validated” does and does not mean.
≈ Engineering estimates
Some panels use a simplified, heuristic, or manufacturer-specific model for which no public governing standard exists. These are marked in-app with an ≈ Engineering estimate badge and are intended for preliminary sizing only. They are reasonable first-pass models, but they are not validated to a standard and must not be relied upon for a final design.
Manufacturer-specific tools. Certain tools — including, without limitation, slewing-ring bearings, shaft couplings, and worm gears— are estimate-based because their real capacity is defined by manufacturer catalog data rather than a public standard. Use them for preliminary sizing only and verify the final selection against the component manufacturer's own selection data and software.
3. What “validated” means here (and what it doesn’t)
Our standard-validated calculations are checked rigorously, but honesty requires being precise:
- It means:the calculation reproduces the cited standard's method, and representative cases and edge cases are pinned by automated tests that re-run on every release.
- It does not mean every possible combination of inputs has been individually tested, that results are validated against physical test data, or that the software has been independently certified by a licensed engineer.
- No software of this kind — including widely used commercial tools — can guarantee a correct result for every input. Residual error is always possible, particularly at extreme or unusual inputs.
That is precisely why independent verification by a responsible engineer is mandatory (§4), not optional.
4. Your verification responsibility
By using the Service you accept that:
- You are a competent person using the tools within your area of professional expertise, and you are responsible for selecting the correct standard, inputs, units, and assumptions.
- Every result — validated or estimate — must be independently reviewed and verified by a competent, licensed/chartered Professional Engineer before it is relied upon for manufacture, construction, procurement, certification, or any decision affecting safety, property, or life.
- The responsible engineer, not MechanixCalc, holds professional responsibility for the design. The Service does not relieve you or your engineer of that duty of care.
5. AI Engineering Assistant
The AI Engineering Assistant (powered by Anthropic's Claude) is provided for guidance and interpretation only. Its responses can contain errors and are not engineering advice; they must be independently verified by a competent engineer. See the Terms of Service §18 for details on how the assistant works and what data is transmitted.
6. Assumption of risk, no warranty & limitation of liability
You assume all risk arising from your use of, and reliance on, the Service. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MechanixCalc and Mechanixer Dooel Skopje are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, death, or cost arising from the use of, or reliance on, any result, estimate, verdict, report, or AI response produced by the Service, and you agree to indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your use of or reliance on the Service.
The full disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability (including the liability cap and the mandatory legal exceptions), and indemnification are set out in our Terms of Service §§10–12 and are incorporated into this disclaimer. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud), or any mandatory consumer rights you may have.
